President's Message

Welcome to the IMA Gulf South Council.  We have an exciting year planned and look forward to working with our Council Chapters and Student Chapters.  IMA is changing, and so are we.  We welcome Chapter Delegates and hope that we can strengthen our relationship and involvement with our Chapters this year, via this linkage.

The Council Planning Committee met in Columbus, GA on July 27, 2019 to outline our plan for the 2019-2020 year.  We discussed several By-Law Changes from our Global IMA Organization, and we will be voting on them at our September Council Meeting.  We also outlined plans for our meetings this year.  We are taking a big professional step with our seminar offerings by applying for NASBA certification.

Due to the late cancellation of our April 2019 Meeting, we rolled that meeting forward as our Fall Meeting to be held on September 26 & 27, 2019, at the Homewood Suites in Columbus, GA.  The Meeting Program and Registration Information is now available on the Council Website. The seminar offers up to 12 hours of Continuing Professional Education, including Ethics and topics relevant to professional development and maintaining our professional certifications.

A Winter Meeting is scheduled for February 20-22, 2020 in Athens, AL, at the Hampton Inn & Suites.  It will consist of a Board Meeting and a seminar of 8 hours of CPE.  We look forward to having our Student Chapter and their advisors from Athens State University join us at the meeting.

A Spring Meeting is also planned for this year in late April (dates and exact locations to be determined).  Our Meetings and Facilities Director is working on a location in the Biloxi, MS area, offering opportunities for a Beach Outing and maybe some Casino Gambling, along with our Council Meeting and a seminar offering up to 12 hours of CPE.

I look forward to seeing each of you more often this year, and trust that you will reserve these dates to spend time with your professional colleagues for fun, relaxation and professional development.

See you in September!

John Redmond
Gulf South Council President, 2019-2020
